Board Care
Your board is made from a natural source: a tree. As such a little TLC will go a long way to having your board last lifetimes. Yes, Lifetimes! Imagine a family heirloom! How cool is that! Your board is treated with a warm food grade mineral oil bath. This is to keep moisture and bacteria out of the wood grain. It is then conditioned with a blend of food grade mineral oil, bees wax, carnauba wax, and vitamin E. Then polished to a nice sheen.
Feel free to cut any food items on your board. Veggies, cheese, meats, and yes, even raw chicken. Don’t worry. Natural wood fiber is now coated with mineral oil preventing bacteria growth. A light wash will remove food particles. A little detergent will cut grease and food oils. Just don’t scour the surface.
Certain foods may stain the board. Like beets. This doesn’t degrade the board at all but, may discolor lighter woods. If needed a light washing will clean the surface.
NEVER submerge your board in water or run it through the dishwasher. After a light wash, towel dry (cloth or paper) your board. Make sure to remove any excess water. Let stand overnight. If board looks or feels dry use a good dose of conditioner (a bottle comes with each board and more can be purchased see board accessories). Cover entire board and let soak in for at least 20 minutes. Then buff to a nice sheen. Now your board is good to go!
